Who we are
Drivewatch is a trade name of a Dutch general partnership (vennootschap onder firma, VOF) based in Houten. We design, install, and operate dashcam and fleet-security hardware and the software that goes with it. For everything described in this policy, Drivewatch is the data controller unless we state otherwise in section 05.
If you have any question about this policy or want to exercise a privacy right, the fastest route is to email info@drivewatch.nl. Our full legal identity and contact details are at the bottom of this page.
We only collect what we need to give you a quote, install your hardware, run the service, and keep your account safe. We do not sell personal data, and we do not run advertising or analytics trackers.
Website & leads
When you use our website, request a quote, book an installation, or apply for a job, you choose what to share with us through our forms. Depending on the form, that can include:
- Identity & contact — name, email address, phone number, and company name.
- Vehicle details — number plate, make/model, and the number of vehicles you want covered.
- Quote & booking details — the products and options you configured, preferred install date, and any notes you add.
- Recruitment — your CV, motivation, and anything else you include when you apply to join us.
We use this information to respond to your request, prepare a quote, schedule an installation, and — where you have asked us to — keep you informed about Drivewatch. You are never required to give us more than the form asks for.
Product & app
Our dashcams and the Drivewatch app process data from the vehicle to deliver the safety and security features you switched on. Depending on your configuration, this can include:
- Driving-behaviour data — events such as harsh braking, rapid acceleration, and cornering, used to surface coaching insights and trip summaries.
- ADAS AI signals — on-device computer-vision alerts (e.g. lane departure, forward-collision warnings) generated as you drive.
- Dual-lens driver-monitoring — in-cabin detection of distraction or fatigue, where the driver-facing lens is enabled.
- GPS & LiveView footage — location data and road/cabin video that you or an authorised fleet administrator can request on demand.
Footage and behaviour data are accessible only to the account holder and the people they authorise — for a fleet, that is typically a designated administrator. We process this data to provide the service, not to monitor anyone for our own purposes.
The in-cabin lens is off by default and only records when the vehicle owner enables it. Where employees are filmed, the employer is responsible for informing drivers and establishing a lawful basis under section 05.
Legal bases for processing
Under the GDPR, we only process personal data when we have a lawful basis to do so. We rely on the following:
- Contract — to prepare a quote, install hardware, and deliver the service you bought.
- Legitimate interest — to secure our systems, prevent fraud, and improve product reliability, balanced against your rights.
- Consent — for optional things such as marketing emails or enabling the driver-facing lens; you can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation — to meet tax, accounting, and other statutory duties.
Controller vs processor
For our website, leads, and consumer customers, Drivewatch acts as the controller — we decide why and how data is processed.
For B2B fleets, the relationship is different. The employer or fleet operator is the controller of their drivers' data, and Drivewatch acts as a processor — we process footage and behaviour data on their instructions, under a data processing agreement. In that case, drivers should direct privacy requests to their employer first; we will support the employer in answering them.
How long we keep data
We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, plus any period the law requires. The table below sets out our standard retention periods.
| Data | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Quote & lead forms | Respond, follow up, prepare offer | 12 months after last contact |
| Customer & contract records | Deliver and support the service | Duration + 7 yrs (tax law) |
| LiveView / event footage | On-demand review, incident evidence | Rolling 30 days unless saved |
| Driving-behaviour data | Trip insights & coaching | Account lifetime |
| Recruitment (CV) | Assess your application | 4 weeks, or 1 yr with consent |
| Support correspondence | Resolve and audit requests | 24 months |
When a retention period ends, we securely delete or irreversibly anonymise the data.
Sharing & sub-processors
We never sell personal data. We share it only with carefully selected service providers who help us run Drivewatch, each bound by a data processing agreement and permitted to use the data only on our instructions.
| Sub-processor | Role | Region |
|---|---|---|
| KPN | Mobile connectivity for devices | EU · NL |
| Cloud / hosting | Application & footage storage | EU |
| Supabase | Database & authentication | EU |
| Email provider | Transactional & support email | EU |
We may also disclose data where we are legally required to — for example in response to a valid request from a competent authority.
International transfers
We keep personal data within the European Union wherever possible. Part of our engineering team is based in the United Arab Emirates and may, only with your explicit consent and only to fix a specific issue you have reported, access the relevant data temporarily.
Where any transfer outside the EEA takes place, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, and we limit access to what is strictly necessary to resolve the issue.
Automated decisions & profiling
Our ADAS and driver-monitoring features run automated analysis to generate safety alerts and trip insights. These produce information and warnings — they do not make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Any decision about a driver based on this data (for example, coaching or performance conversations) is made by the employer, with a human in the loop, not automatically by Drivewatch.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectify data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Erase data where there is no longer a reason to keep it.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing.
To exercise any right, email info@drivewatch.nl. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch supervisory authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Security
We protect personal data with encryption in transit and at rest, strict access controls, and regular review of our suppliers and systems. Footage and account data are accessible only to the account holder and those they authorise.
No system can promise absolute security, but we work continuously to reduce risk and we will notify you and the relevant authority where the law requires us to.
Changes & effective date
We may update this policy as our product or the law evolves. When we make a material change, we will update the “last updated” date and, where appropriate, tell you directly.
This version is effective from 12 June 2026.
